Kwanzaa For Life
2003

Jesus of Kwanzaa, light our way!

The Kinara of the Soul

The Kin
ara is a seven-place candle holder that represents the original stalk from which all African people sprang.  It also represents reason and social structure. In Kwanzaa for Life it represents the soul of each individual, the vessel which contains the spirit of life.

RESPONSE:

Work with us Jesus
to respect life, because
life is sacred and
we are because God is!

UMOJA
(UNITY)
We will work for unity among all people and focus our mission to right the wrongs of division based on beliefs of superiority and inferiority because Jesus is Prince of Peace!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

KUJICHAGULIA (SELF-DETERMINATION)
We will know and live as who we are and whose we are, instead of being determined and defined by and for others because Jesus is God-Hero!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

UJIMA (COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY)
We will build a spirit and a conscience to share our problems, lighten each other's burdens, and maintain our communities because Jesus is Mighty Counselor!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

UJAMAA (COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS)
We will use our resources wisely, building and maintaining businesses and using products, which uphold our dignity as persons and provide profit, which benefits our communities because Jesus is Wonder-Worker!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

NIA (PURPOSE)
We will follow His calling to love and serve others so that we may restore our people to the greatness of those generations who have gone before us because Jesus is Son Forever!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

KUUMBA (CREATIVITY)
We will find new ways and rekindle old ways to make our communities and our lives more beautiful each day of our lives because Jesus is the Anointed One!

RESPONSE: Work with us Jesus to respect life, because life is sacred and we are because God is!

IMANI (FAITH)
We will remain faithful to His ways to uphold our people in all walks of life with righteousness in His name’s sake because Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us!

KWANZAA FOR LIFE 2003

(December 26, 2003
through January 1, 2004)

Let Us Also Offer The Following Prayers:

The Lord's Prayer

The Marian Prayer: Hail Mary

Psalm 27 (The Lord is my light and my salvation…)

Kwanzaa for Life Prayer - O come all you faithful, rejoicing and victorious!  Come, let us adore the Lord of life and goodness, as we celebrate Kwanzaa and the African American heritage.  Come and give thanks and praise for the journey.  Jesus, by your mercy, grant us the grace to cherish this life.  Guide us to uphold the dignity and respect of life from the moment of conception to its natural end at death.  Lead us to be to true to our nature as you created us.  We ask these things because we have our roots in the divine origin of Creator, Savior, and Sanctifier, Jesus our Lord. Amen.  AMEN

Jesus, be our light,
In the midst of night,
Let not faithless fear o'ertake us,
Let not faith and hope forsake us;
May we feel you near
As we worship here.

Jesus, still lead on
'Til our rest be won:
If you lead us through rough places,
Grant us your redeeming graces.
When our course is o'er,
Open heaven's door.
