Hurricane Katrina

                             Prayer of Consolation

National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life Family, which represents the major National African American Catholic organizations in the U.S, and the over fifty NBCAL affiliates throughout the country. offer the following testimony and prayer of consolation for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and their family and friends:

On the human level:  Hurricane Katrina has brought monumental heartbreak, loss, sadness, and death.  There are no words to adequately describe the pain, devastation, and death in the Gulf Coast States.

On the faith level: we know that God hears and answers prayer. Our ancestors said it well: “And He knows just how much we can bear”. In faith and in the name of Life, we pray for all who have been affected and effected by Hurricane Katrina.

  Prayer of Consolation

O God our refuge and our strength, we come as humbly as

we know how, praying for our sisters and brothers

affected and effected by Hurricane Katrina.

We need you right now Lord of Life and Mercy.

During these trying times be the God of our weary years

and silent tears.  Be our stronghold and deliverer.

In your great mercy, comfort those who suffer

and grieve at this very hour.

O Lord grant life eternal to those who have

 fallen asleep in death.

Wrap your mantle of grace and mercy around all of us.

Give us your divine staying power.

Lord God, infuse wisdom and understanding into the hearts,

minds, and souls of those who seek to alleviate

the pain and anguish of the suffering.

We need you right now Lord of Life and Mercy.

Holy Spirit, direct the paths of the future decisions

to be made for the Gulf Coast States and comfort those

uprooted souls as you plot a new course in their lives.

O Lord, hold our feeble hands and grant us protection

from all hurt, harm, and danger.

Give us Lord what we need to lift up and build up

one another in faith, hope, and love.

We ask all these things in the precious name

of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Bread of Life.
Holy Mary, Mother of God

Angels and Saints

Be our intercessors.

Amen
