Black Catholics for Life

Oppose NYC Money to Planned Parenthood

“As Black Catholics we cannot and will not remain silent..."

New York City…Today the National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life joined other
Pro-Life organizations in denouncing Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the City Council
for giving the Planned Parenthood of America over $32 million dollars.

Last week Planned Parenthood of America received approval for $32 million in bonds, and a partial mortgage tax waiver of $880,000, to be used to improve it national headquarters.  The financial benefits were administered through the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which aids businesses and non-profits operating within New York City.

Franciscan Father James Goode, President of the National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life, with headquarters in New York City stated: “As Black Catholics we cannot and will not remain silent when thousands of African American and Hispanic babies are aborted each year in this city.  It is a disgrace that $32 million plus could be given to Planned Parenthood of America, an organization that kills the innocent and helpless babies of our community.  Wouldn’t it make a difference if $32 million additional dollars were allocated for single mothers, prenatal care, education, health care, housing and social - economic development?"

New York City is not the only area in the state where Planned Parenthood is receiving funding.

In March the New York Criminal Justice Services Department drew criticism for designating $23, 300 of federal STOP (Services Training, Officers and Programs) Violence Against Women’s grant money to the Rochester affiliate of the nation’s largest abortion business.

Chris Fitch, Legislative Director of New York State Right to Life called the award “extremely ironic,” considering Planned Parenthood’s opposition to unborn victims laws, which make it an additional crime to kill or injure an unborn child in an assault on a pregnant woman.

Over 14 million African American babies have been aborted since 1973.
