Black Catholic Vigil for Life 2003

Saturday at Sundown

October 4,  2003

Black Catholics throughout the United States gathered in prayer during the Sixth Annual Black Catholic Vigil for Life on Saturday October 4, 2003.

“Choose Life!  Come Pray With Us For Life!”
was the theme for the Sixth Annual Black Catholic
Vigil for Life.

During the Black Catholic Vigil for Life 2003, special prayers and expressions of gratitude were offered for Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his election as the Successor of St. Peter.  Pope John Paul II’s entire papacy has been dedicated to proclaiming the sacredness of life from the moment of conception to its natural end.

At the conclusion of the Black Catholic Vigils for Life 2003, the following statement from the National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life, prepared by Fr. Jim Goode, OFM, President of NBCAL, was read and affirmed by the Black Catholic community:

“The killing of innocent lives is never justified, and will never be acceptable behavior in our African American communities.  Every abortion ends life.  All life is sacred and must be protected.  As defenders of life we stand firmly on the side of life.  We are by word and example unconditionally, praying, proclaiming, and promoting the Gospel of Life.

Mary, Mother of God and Mother of Black Catholics for Life- journey with us as we
walk in the footsteps of your Son Jesus and Choose Life”.

Over 14 million African American babies have been aborted since 1973.
