On Saturday evening October 1, 2005,
the Black Catholic Community is encouraged to assemble in their local parishes or neighborhood meeting places to pray, celebrate, and reflect on the Gospel of Life and its special meaning for us as a people.  Whatever prayer style is familiar and comfortable to the group is most appropriate for this National Black Catholic Vigil for Life.  Please remember to pray for the family, the unborn, for the end of abortion and all violence, the elderly, the sick, those living with HIV/AIDS, the poor, the broken and abandoned among us, those who have passed from our midst, and our spiritual and political leaders.
We will pray also for the end of the culture of death and violence, afflicted on our sisters and brothers in Sudan. We pray for our sisters and brothers
affected and effected by Hurricane Katrina.
