REVERENCE FOR LIFE
Publication of the National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life
Pray Proclaim and Promote the Gospel of Life

Fall 2003

This issue of “Reverence for Life” is dedicated to
Pope John Paul II
on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of his election
as the Successor of St. Peter.

Black Catholics in America,
are
not silent on the issue of abortion
.

The killing of innocent lives is never justified, and will never be acceptable behavior in our community. Every abortion ends life. All Life is sacred and must be protected. As defenders of life we stand firmly on the side of life. We are by word and example praying, proclaiming, and promoting the Gospel of Life. Mary,
Mother of God and Mother of Black Catholics for Life journey with us as we walk in the footsteps of your Son Jesus and Choose Life.

Statement from the National Black Catholic Apostolate for Life
On Respect Life Sunday –October 5, 2003

In our Masses and Prayers let us pray for the end of Abortion.

Life is a Miracle

“Women tempted by abortion deserve better, Lord. They deserve our love, our help, and our respect. Children waiting to be born deserve better than abortion, Lord. They deserve our protection and care”.

Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, USCCB President

Sudan

St. Josephine Bakhita, pray for us and our
Sisters and Brothers of Sudan. The Catholic and Episcopal Bishop of Sudan this past August 2003 signed a proclamation, which said in part: “Enough is enough.  The war must stop.  War is not an option.  Peace must prevail.  The threat to resume the war in the event of a setback in the IGAD process is totally unacceptable and should not be countenanced by any party.  The people of Sudan totally reject a return to war.  They urgently need a just and peaceful solution to the conflict.  The international community must stand in solidarity with the people.

National Christian Voter Registration Sundays:  This project is simple and effective.  When the People of God take their convictions into the voting booths, they exercise yet another aspect of discipleship.  For more information contact:  www.priestsforlife.org.  Together we can make a difference in the name of Life. The National Pro-Life Religious Council sponsors this Pro-Life project.  NBCAL has been elected to this council.
